A social media dashboard template is a reusable layout that shows the metrics your brand cares about in one place. Scorecards at the top, a trend in the middle, and content, traffic and care zones below. Fill it once, refresh it every week, and you stop hunting through five native analytics screens.
Leadership wants proof. According to the 2025 Sprout Social Index, 65% of marketing leaders say they need to prove how social media supports business goals to get buy in. A living dashboard is the shortest path to that proof.
Here is a free social media dashboard template, the five zones to include, a worked example, and a seven step build in Google Sheets or Looker Studio.
The short version
- One primary goal. The dashboard leads with that goal, not with every platform metric.
- Five to eight metrics. Write the definition, source and formula once.
- Five zones. Scorecards, trend, content, traffic and return, care.
- Sheets first, then Looker Studio. Same layout, better refresh later.
- Targets and traffic lights. Green, amber, red agreed with leadership.
- Named owner and weekly review. Without both, the view goes stale.
What is a social media dashboard template?
A blank layout for a live performance view, filled with the metrics, targets and sources that match your brand goals. It is the page your team opens every Monday, not a monthly slide deck.
Think of it as a social media KPI dashboard you can copy: columns for the metric, source, period, target and owner, with charts that sit on those columns.
The same columns work as a social media metrics dashboard, a social media KPI dashboard Excel file, or a social media KPI tracker template.
Dashboard versus monthly report
The dashboard answers a status question. Are we on track this week? Which posts are carrying the goal? Where is reply time slipping?
The monthly report answers a learning question. What changed, why, and what will we do next? It needs narrative, context and recommendations. Keep both. Do not force the live view to do the report’s job.

What marketers are trying to prove
HubSpot’s 2026 research shows how social goals stack. Awareness still leads, but revenue and leads sit close behind. Your dashboard should make the chosen goal impossible to miss.

How to build a social media dashboard in 7 steps
Step 1: Lock one primary goal
A dashboard without a goal becomes a wallpaper of numbers. Pick one primary outcome for the next quarter: awareness, engagement, traffic, leads or sales.
HubSpot’s 2026 Social Media Trends Report found that 59% of marketers named brand awareness as their top social goal. Your dashboard should lead with the goal you chose, not with every platform metric.
Step 2: Choose five to eight metrics
Keep the set small. For each metric write the exact definition, the source and the formula you will use every time. Do not mix reach from one platform with impressions from another without a note.
Our guide to social media KPIs covers how to pick and calculate the metrics that connect to business results. This template assumes those choices are already made.
Step 3: Map every data source
List where each number comes from: Meta Business Suite Insights, TikTok Analytics, LinkedIn Page analytics, YouTube Studio, and Google Analytics 4 for social referral traffic and conversions. Add paid spend if you run ads.
Write the export path for each source. If a number needs a manual paste, say so.

Step 4: Design five dashboard zones
Give the page a fixed layout so anyone can find the same number in the same place. The five zones below work for most brand teams.
1. Scorecards. Four to six headline numbers for the current period, each with a target and a traffic light.
2. Trend. A weekly or monthly line for the primary metric over the last 12 weeks.
3. Content. Top posts by the metric that matches the goal, plus a simple format split.
4. Traffic and return. Social referral sessions, assisted conversions and a simple return figure. Our guide on how to calculate social media ROI shows the formula.
5. Care. Reply time, unanswered volume and sentiment if you track it.

Step 5: Build it in Sheets or Looker Studio
Start in Google Sheets or Excel if your team is small. One tab holds the raw weekly extracts. A second tab holds the live template with scorecards and charts that point at the raw tab.
When you outgrow the sheet, move the same layout into Looker Studio. Connect Sheets and GA4 so the view refreshes without a weekly paste. Keep column names identical or every chart breaks.

Step 6: Add targets and traffic lights
Every scorecard needs a target. Colour the cell green when you are on track, amber within 10 percent, and red when you are off. Agree the bands once with leadership. Targets should come from your own baseline plus a realistic lift.
Step 7: Set the cadence and the owner
A dashboard dies when nobody owns the refresh. Name one person for the weekly update and book a short review with the brand lead. The live view answers “are we on track?” The monthly report answers what changed next. Our social media report template covers that document.

Worked example: Northline Home
Northline Home is a fictional UK homeware brand. Primary goal for the quarter: grow social referral sessions to the site. Secondary: keep average reply time under four hours on Instagram and TikTok.
| Zone | Metric | Actual | Target | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scorecard | Social referral sessions (28 days) | 12,400 | 14,000 | Amber |
| Scorecard | Engagement rate (all owned posts) | 3.1% | 3.5% | Amber |
| Scorecard | Follower growth rate | 1.8% | 2.0% | Amber |
| Scorecard | Average reply time | 3.2 hours | 4.0 hours | Green |
| Trend | Weekly referral sessions | Rising 6 of last 8 weeks | Steady rise | Green |
| Content | Top post format | Short form how to videos | n/a | n/a |
| Traffic | Assisted conversions from social | 86 | 100 | Amber |
| Care | Unanswered messages older than 24 hours | 4 | 0 | Red |
Fictional example by Advertain. Figures are illustrative, not from a real brand.
A dashboard is a promise. If the numbers are late or undefined, leadership will stop trusting the whole social programme.
The red cell is small in volume but it breaks the care target. The dashboard surfaces that before the monthly report does.

Frequently asked questions
What is a social media dashboard template?
A reusable layout for a live performance view. It holds your metrics, targets, sources and owners so the team can refresh the same page every week.
What should a social media KPI dashboard include?
Five zones: scorecards, a trend chart, top posts, traffic and return linked to analytics, and a care block for reply time and unanswered messages.
Can I build a social media KPI dashboard in Excel?
Yes. One sheet for raw weekly extracts, a second for the live template. The same columns work in Google Sheets and later in Looker Studio.
How is a dashboard different from a social media report?
A dashboard shows whether you are on track this week. A report explains what changed and what to do next. Keep both.
How often should I update a social media metrics dashboard?
Weekly for the live view, with a deeper monthly read. Name one owner for the refresh.
