YouTube New Features 2026: What Brands Should Do After Made on YouTube

Custom feeds, hook testing, Shorts series and a real hub for creator deals. Here is what YouTube announced on 23 September and the six moves brands should make now.

The YouTube new features 2026 brands need to care about were announced at Made on YouTube in New York on 23 September, and the short answer is this: YouTube is handing viewers more control over what they see, handing creators AI tools to test everything, and building a proper marketplace for brand deals and shopping. Brands that adapt their packaging, testing, TV creative and creator partnerships in the next 90 days will get the benefit first.

Below we translate the announcements into six practical steps, with a feature by feature table, a checklist you can hand to your team and the sources for every claim.

The short version

  • Discovery is becoming conversational. Custom feeds and Ask YouTube mean viewers describe what they want in plain language, so your titles and descriptions need to match how people talk.
  • Testing is now built in. Dynamic thumbnails and draft feedback are live, and hook testing of up to three cuts is coming soon.
  • The TV screen keeps growing. YouTube hit 14.2% of all US TV viewing in July, and over half of its top 100 creators get most views on TV.
  • Brand deals have a real hub. Creator Partnerships is live in 20 countries, with dynamic sponsor segments across up to 20 videos on the way.
  • Shopping goes global. The affiliate programme expands to 35 countries by the end of the year, with localised product tags.

What are the YouTube new features 2026 brands need to know?

YouTube announced dozens of updates across its official round up and detailed posts on creator tools, monetisation and shopping, TV and Shorts and live. These are the ones that change how a brand should plan.

Step 1: Package videos for conversational discovery

Custom feeds let viewers type a prompt and get a feed built around it, pinned to their Homepage. TechCrunch reports that multiple custom feeds start rolling out on web and mobile next month, with the US first. Alongside that, Ask YouTube will answer product questions while someone is watching, including organised recommendations such as a comparison table.

The practical effect: the words in your title, description and chapters now feed a system that is matching them against natural sentences, not just keywords.

  1. Write titles as promises in plain English. Say who it is for and what they get.
  2. Use chapters on every long video. Clear chapter names give AI systems more to match against.
  3. Describe products precisely. Name the product, the use case and the comparison a buyer would ask about.

Step 2: Turn every upload into a test

YouTube says creators have run more than 40 million tests on titles and thumbnails. The new tools push testing deeper into the video itself. Dynamic thumbnails let you upload up to three and YouTube shows the best of three options to different segments of your audience. Draft feedback reviews unpublished videos for pacing, structure and storytelling. And coming soon, you can test up to three cuts to see which hook performs best. Later this year, Studio will also swap out an underperforming thumbnail automatically.

The brands that win on YouTube next year will not be the ones with the biggest budgets. They will be the ones that test three openings for every video.

Our advice: plan three thumbnail concepts and three openings at the script stage, not in the edit. If you let Studio swap thumbnails automatically, keep a list of approved alternatives so nothing off brand goes live. Step 3: Make creative for the living room

YouTube took a record 14.2% of all US TV viewing in July 2026, according to Nielsen, and YouTube says over half of its top 100 creators now have TV as their most watched screen. Viewers can also now comment from the TV using voice.

TV viewing changes the brief. Longer videos, bigger text on thumbnails, clean audio and pacing that works for people watching together on a sofa. We argued this in why YouTube is replacing TV, and the data keeps moving in one direction.

Step 4: Treat Shorts as a series, not a feed

Shorts series lets creators group Shorts into seasons and episodes with custom artwork, and it is rolling out now across web, mobile and TV. YouTube says microdramas passed 6.5 billion views in the first half of 2026, with watch time up by over 50% year on year. Shorts overall average 200 billion daily views.

For brands this is a chance to build recurring formats: a weekly product myth buster, a behind the scenes season, a five episode story. Recurring formats train viewers to come back, which a pile of one off clips never does.

Step 5: Rebuild creator deals around Creator Partnerships

BrandConnect was renamed YouTube Creator Partnerships in March, and it is now available in 20 countries. Two announcements matter most. First, dynamic brand segments let a creator insert a sponsor segment into up to 20 long form videos at once, with a shelf and a call to action button. Second, Ask Studio will soon help creators respond to brand briefs and build pitches, which means your brief will be read, summarised and answered with AI help.

Google data shows advertisers who promoted creator led videos on Shorts saw an average 30% increase in conversion lift (Google data, so treat it as a platform figure). Write briefs with one clear objective, the must say points and the metric you will judge on. Vague briefs will get vague AI assisted replies.

Step 6: Connect every video to commerce

The shopping affiliate programme will expand to 35 countries by the end of the year. YouTube says it has over 1.3 million creators, shopping tags drive more than twice as many clicks as description links, and product tags will now show localised offers to viewers abroad. Social Media Today reports the programme currently runs in the US, UK, Thailand and India.

YouTube ads revenue by quarter ($bn)

Advertisers are following the audience: YouTube ads revenue reached $11.1bn in Q2 2026, up from $9.8bn a year earlier. If your products are sold online, get your catalogue connected and brief creators to tag products rather than rely on links.

What can wait until 2027?

Not everything needs action now. Live auto dubbing is being piloted from early 2027, as are co hosted live streams, and Live Showdowns arrive in 2027. Note them in your roadmap, but spend this quarter on packaging, testing, TV creative and partnerships.

Checklist: your 30 day plan

  1. Audit your top 20 videos: rewrite titles and descriptions in plain, conversational language and add chapters.
  2. Upload three thumbnails to every new video using dynamic thumbnails.
  3. Run draft feedback on your next three uploads before publishing.
  4. Script three alternative hooks for your next hero video so you are ready when hook testing arrives.
  5. Review your last five videos on TV: is text readable and audio clean from across a room?
  6. Design one recurring Shorts series with at least five episodes.
  7. Rewrite your creator brief template with one objective, must say points and a success metric.
  8. Connect your product catalogue for tagging and brief creators to use product tags.
